FAQS

What to wear?

Osteopathy:

Its best to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your osteopath appointment, to allow your osteopath to easily access areas of the body that need treatment. Wear clothes that are easy to remove, as the osteopath may need to access certain areas that are covered by clothing to perform your treatment. Avoid restrictive clothing, an example of this is sports bras that don't undo at the back, making it difficult to assess the spine.

Massage Appointment:

It's best to arrive wearing non precious, comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to avoid any potential oil transfer to clothing, and to be comfortable after your massage experience. Before your massage begins, I will leave the room which will allow you to undress down to underwear or a pair of shorts (whatever you're most comfortable with), and lay down under the covers that will be provided for you for privacy and comfort before the experience begins. (For more information on the benefits of Therapeutic Massage, please read the services section on the homepage)

How many osteopathy sessions do I need?

The number of sessions you need to recover from your problem depends on you and factors like your current health, your age, and the presenting symptoms. My aim is to keep those appointments to a minimum. After a diagnosis has been made and explained in the initial assessment, I will be able to give an estimate of how many treatments will be required. Typically, an adult may require 3-6 sessions over a several week period. Please be aware if you have a chronic condition that has been there for some time, you may require more sessions.

Does osteopathic treatment hurt?

Osteopathy involves gentle stretching and manipulation of muscles, joints and bones It is generally very safe and should not cause significant discomfort. 10-20% of people feel soreness after treatment, (like they've had a good gym workout) however that soreness should pass withing a few days after your session.

Are osteopaths regulated?

All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Osteopaths must be on the register by law to call themselves an osteopath, and must establish, maintain and continue to develop the high standards for osteopathic practice and conduct.
